Genesis Study Part 5, episode 11.

We finish up the Genesis 1-3 narrative looking at Adam and Eve being blocked from entering the Garden of Eden and therefore access to the Tree of Life. Why would God do this? Is He just mad and punishing them? We also take a look at what this story tells us about a very important word in all of scripture – sin. What is sin? How is it related to worship and idolatry? And, does this story in Genesis say anything about what is often discussed as “original sin”?

Did Augustine Corrupt the Church with Gnostic Doctrine?

(I don’t know anything in particular about the person presenting this video and since I haven’t acquainted myself with his full teachings I am not able to recommend just anything he teaches. HOWEVER, having read through much early church literature and having studied church history, his findings in this video are correct.)

Augustine’s Mistake About Sin

Genesis Study Part 6, episode 12.

We’ve made it through Genesis 1-3, but now let’s take a look at the themes that run throughout the entire Bible, but begin in Genesis 1-3. These themes include the renewal of the broken, sacred space and life and death. We can also see that the New Testament at times is written to show the undoing of what went wrong in the Old Testament….it almost functions like a mirror showing what is set right from what went wrong. How is what was broken now fixed? It’s Jesus! And, we end the episode by listening to some early church writings that discuss the story of the broken and how things are renewed and made whole again. You may want to download the docs given below as they are a guide to the discussion in the episode and they provide the verses for you to check out.

Genesis Study Part 7, episode 13.

Now that we’ve taken a look at the big narrative in Genesis 1-3, we’re going to take a closer look at Genesis 1 itself. What is being created in this account? Is this an account of material origins? Is it possible something else is going on here? We’ll see why after a close study of Genesis 1 we can see that science and the Bible are not at war. To do this, we’ll be discussing John Walton’s book, The Lost World of Genesis. We’ll give an overview of the book to help people as they read through it for themselves.

Old Testament Overview, episode 14.

Now that we’ve finished understanding the beginning of the story of the Bible (Genesis 1-3), we want to learn more from Jesus Himself and start reading a gospel. Our next series on the Genuine Life will be on Matthew. But, in order to understand Matthew’s way of thinking and writing, we need to understand the main characters and stories of the Old Testament. He uses these stories to understand the grand narrative of the Bible and to understand more specifically who Jesus is, what He’s doing and what all of this means for us and for creation. In this episode, we briefly cover the main characters and stories of the Old Testament.

Getting the Bible’s Words Right, episode 15.

To understand the Bible well, we first must understand the framework it is written in. Once we understand that and then look closely at the original Greek and Hebrew words, we can better understand the words the Bible is using throughout the entire Biblical narrative.  Many of the words in this episode are foundational to the understanding of the Bible. We discuss the words sin, repentance, faith, forgiveness, salvation, gospel, grace, new creation/new life, kingdom of God, disciple, holiness, judgement, and God’s glory.
